Welcome to the 2006-2007 Bowling Season

Congratulations to Rick O'Brien who won the Yellowknife 300 Club tournament and to Ron Latimer who squeaked past Steve Clark by one pin in an extra game to win the Yellowknife League Executive tournament.

Congratulations to Glen Wallingtom, Tom Gauthier, Josephine Lamolice and Margaret Gauthier who will represent Hay River at the Interprovincial Tournament in Winnipeg May, 18-19.  They will be joined by Yellowknife winners Helen Lawson, Theresa Slator, Doug Gillard and Stephen Clark.

Congratulations to the winners of the NWT Open Championships who will compete at the nationals in Sudbury May 27-June 2:

Ladies Singles:  Helen Lawson    Men's Singles:  Terry Burns

Ladies team:  Lillian Crook, Brenda Biggar, Len Haener, Shereen Naidu, Vania Gill, Paulette West.  Coach:  Len Klause

Men's Team:   Terry Burns, Jeff Brockway, Don Andrusiak, Rick O'Brien, Steve O'Brien, Carey Broadhead  Coach:  Jim White

Congratulations to Shirley Lloyd and Lori Carleton of the Yellowknife Seniors' League for winning the NWT High Low Doubles tournament.  They will be off to Halifax for the national competition April 26-29.  This is the second year in a row that the winners have come from the Seniors' League, just another indication that bowling is for everyone.

Hay River:  Riding the wave of a great 276 final game Lillian Crook won the 300 Club Tournament and year's free lineage beating out seven other competitors.  Well done and congratulations Lillian.

We hope this year to be more current and revitalize our site.  Doing so requires that we receive up to date and comprehensive information and ideas.  Please send tournament results, any highlights from your lanes, photos, etc., etc.

You will have to click here to find out who, where, when and how.

Here is a highlight from the Kingpin Bowling Centre in Yellowknife sent in By Steve O'Hara:

Last night in the Thursday Night League, Cole Bouchard threw, what I believe to be, the 3rd highest triple for men, ever thrown in the NWT. His games of 324,307, and 339 gave him a 970 total. The NWT record for men is an even 1000 thrown back in 1992 by Derek Paproski. Cole recorded 24 strikes throughout the evening. It's definitely good for NWT Bowling to have him back throwing this year. It will be interesting to see if his current average (323) will help him make a run at the NWT season average record of 259 set by George Lund in 1989. By the way, the Canadian record is 329.

Congratulations to the Yellowknife Host Committee for putting on a fantastic tournament.  Everyone had a great time.  Many, many thanks to all of the sponsors.  Well done Pete and Gary.  For complete results click here.  PHOTOS

Wish Pete Teensma and Gary Black good luck in the High Low Doubles National Championships to be held in Yellowknife April 28-29.

Congratulations to Theresa Slator, Wendy Sanford, Ron Latimer, Daryl Snow and Hay River bowlers Tom Gauthier, Lawrence Gauthier, Shereen Naidu, and Josephine Lamolice who will represent the NWT at the Interprovincial Tournament in Calgary May 18-22.

The following bowlers will represent the NWT at the Provincial Classified tournament in Calgary April 9:

Bernice Dillman, Shirley Lloyd, Theresa Slator, Leah Johnston, Len Haener

Mike Johnston, Pierre Lafond, Max Dillman, Steve O'Brien, Ron Latimer

Congratulations and good luck all!

Team NWT will be heading off to Newfoundland for the National Championships:

Tera Swan from Yellowknife, was awarded the MOST SPORTSMANLIKE AWARD at the 2005 Canadian Youth Challenge 5 Pin Bowling Championships in Hamilton, Ontario, which took place March 17th - 20th.

Tera is a first year bowler who competed against the top Youth Bowlers in Canada between the ages of 14 to 19 and she impressed the Judges of Play with her positive attitude and constant smile.

She was an asset to the team and made us proud.

NWT High Low Double Champs Val Stuparyk and Doug Gillard

The following people will be representing the NWT at the Canadian 5 Pin Open Championships in Edmonton from June 1 – 4, 2005:

Ladies Singles – Kim Bailey (Yellowknife)

Mens Singles – Mike Penkala (Yellowknife)

Mixed Team - Debbie Euchner (Yellowknife), Lorraine Gagnon (Yellowknife), Helen Lawson (Yellowknife), Andrew Penkala (Yellowknife), Jeff Brockway (Hay River),
Ken Bartlett (Hay River)

Coach Steve O’Hara (Yellowknife)

We held our Territorial Open Championships on the weekend of Feb. 11th in Hay River, and it was exciting to watch Mike Penkala battle his son Andrew in the stepladder for the singles spot. Mike came through after defeating Andrew twice, but watch out for this father/son competition in future years. Debbie Euchner gave Kim Bailey a run, defeating her first with a 316 in the stepladder, but Kim kept her spot on the second match, and joins Mike as our Singles competitors.

Debbie Euchner was inducted into our Hall of Fame on Feb. 13th, and she joins Helena Haener, Mike Haener, Mike Penkala, Mary Linn, and Len Klause. Congratulations Debbie, a most deserving recipient.
